An Unexpected Surprise

Today was supposed to be an average Wednesday. Wayne had an ACLS class all day and Millie and I were staying home. We went to bed and then when Millie woke me up at 8:30 Wayne was standing there in his scrubs. HUH? OH NO HE IS SOOOO LATE! I sat up quickly and he smiled sheepishly. Apparently his class was yesterday. :) I love my little scatter brained sweetie. Anyway any opportunity to spend some quality family time is a good one! So off to Chucky Cheese we went! We had a great time and Millie racked up 263 tickets and got all sorts of junk. Then we went to the grocery. Ever since I really got heavy in the couponing going to the store is quite a job, but with Wayne's help it was much easier. BTW subtotal $166 and total after coupons $119 :) Then we headed home and Millie took a much needed nap in the car. When we got home Millie set to work playing with a bucket of water (slathered in SPF50) and Wayne started planting some more landscaping (slathered in SPF50). I did something that gave me great pleasure, I cleaned all three of our bathrooms. I am not being sarcastic, I love spraying that foaming cleaner and then when it is wiped clean everything is sparkly and new. Ok I know I am a freak, but hey if you gotta do it anyway...... Now I am sitting at the picnic table watching Wayne and Millie dig a hole for a new plant.
God must have known I needed a day with my precious little family. I feel better today than I have in awhile. Watching Wayne and Mil try to play skeeball and seeing her face light up when she got to get a chocolate Easter bunny for being good (75% off) was priceless. I need to remember how much he has already given me and he gently reminded me today.

The Emotional Roller Coaster

Emotions are a funny thing. They can be the best of life and they can destroy you. I hope to make it through.

Deciding Not To Worry Today

Sometimes life is so complicated. Sometimes we make life so complicated. Today I have decided to take a break from the chaos. Today I have decided not to worry. I will live life and let the cards fall where they may. I will say what I mean and not feel the need to backtrack. I will feel how I feel and not apologize. I will teach my daughter that while there is a time for responsibility there is also a time to play like no one is watching. Popsicle can run down my shirt and dirt can be in my hair and I will just enjoy the stickiness and the smells. Today is my day not to worry about messed up "good" clothes or not eating enough fruits and veggies. Today is our day to just be. And what we are is pretty great.

Some of My Favorite Things

Today is a beautiful day, and that makes me feel like reflecting on some of my other favorite things.
1. Lists- I know not the usual number one, but for me a list takes away huge amounts of stress. When I write something down (particularly in list form) it doesn't weigh as heavy as it once did.
2. 7pm- Also not the usual time of day most people would pick, but for me it represents many things. It is the time of day that Wayne gets of work, and I begin to anticipate his phone call saying he is coming home to us. It is the time which most of prime time TV begins. It is the time of day that I start making dinner ( we eat late because of Wayne's schedule, Millie eats at 6) and I begin to pick up the house. I usually have Millie washed and in her pjs by 7, and she is waiting to pounce on her Daddy.
3. Magazines- I love a new magazine. I read them all. From a good celeb gossip rag to Good Housekeeping. I find inspiration for new projects, answers to problems and indulgences for my senses.
4. Books- Wayne and I were discussing the new electronic books the other day. He was saying he thought I would love a new Kendell, because I could download books and take a whole library everywhere. At first the thought was intriguing. But the more I pondered the new purchase the more it occurred to me that my love of reading isn't just about the story. I has a lot to do with the book itself. I love the feel of cracking the spine of a new book, or the musty smell of an old volume. I love that I have to make an effort to hide in my room or sometimes in the bathroom :) to sneak in those words I seek. I love most of all the hunt for a book. Going into a bookstore, new or used, is one of my little pleasures in life. I could spend hours in there reading and rereading the backs of my beloved paper books. So no Kendell for Holly.
5. Millie's Neck Hugs- Recently Millie started hugging my neck and whispering in her sweet little sing song voice, "it ok Mommy I right here". It is so precious and oddly very comforting. I think it means so much because before she arrived I had wished so much for her and had so many fears while pregnant that she would not make it to me. Sometimes I will feel that same anxiety, and when she says that it speaks to my soul. She is ok, and she is here and beautiful and wonderful.
I have so many more and I may continue this for a few more posts but for now, if you have suffered this far you deserve a break.

Cardwell Easter 2010

The Cardwell Easter was a "little" more calm this year. Last year we had to go to three separate places and church on the same day. It was to say the least nuts. But this year was much more about the spirit of the season, because Wayne's and my family agreed to meet in one location. My parents hosted a small Easter lunch after church and my in laws came. Millie got to have everyone she loved in one spot and she got to hunt eggs. She had a great time.
Also this year she was more aware of the Easter Bunny and of why we really celebrate Easter. I would ask her, " who died on the cross" and she would answer "Jesus", then I would say "what happened 3 days later" and she would say "Jesus is alive". It was precious. She is precious! We also got to dye eggs and make cupcakes and cookies. FUN FUN FUN! I enjoy holidays so much more now that Millie is here to share them.
Happy Belated Easter!
